Alan Alda was born Alphonso Joseph D’Abruzzo on January 28, 1936, in the Bronx, New York. His father was a professional actor and musician, and his mother was a homemaker. Alda was raised in an Italian-American household and attended Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, New York. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Fordham University and later attended the Yale School of Drama, where he earned his Master of Fine Arts degree.
